Industry representatives meet to discuss myriad of WHS and Workplace Relations issues

  • ACCI’s WHS Committee meets to discuss WHS Model Laws Review and latest WHS survey results.
  • Joint meeting of WHS and Workplace Relations Committees discuss rapidly developing COVID-19 issues.

This week Master Builders attended two important meetings convened by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) to discuss the wide range of issues currently affecting our membership in the areas of WHS and Workplace Relations.

The meetings, which were attended by other key industry groups, canvassed in the first instance a number of significant WHS-related matters such as the development of a collective strategy to respond to the recommendations arising from the model WHS laws review in the lead up to the upcoming WHS Ministers’ meeting in June.  Master Builders advocacy, along with that of other industry groups, will be supported by substantial data obtained from ACCI’s most recent WHS survey of employers.  We were pleased to learn that a significant number of Master Builders’ members responded to the survey, the content of which will be crucial in supporting the submissions we make to State/Territory (including the Commonwealth) WHS Ministers.

The major agenda item of the meeting, however, was a discussion on issues arising from COVID-19.  Members of both ACCI’s WHS and Workplace Relations Committees were jointly provided with an update on the various health directives across the jurisdictions and relevant regulatory framework that had been enacted as a result of the crisis. The meeting also provided the opportunity for the Committee to raise questions and issues their respective memberships were experiencing on the ground. ACCI undertook to raise these issues as part of its direct engagement with the Government as part of the Attorney General’s industry roundtable which has been convened to look at strategies to support employers and employees through the crisis.
